Talks and Demonstrations

A free programme of talks and practical demonstrations by PDA members will be taking place throughout the weekend.  This is an exciting opportunity for visitors to watch professional artists and designers at work, gain insight into the methods and ideas behind their work and ask questions.

TALKS: located in the lecture theatre. DEMONSTRATIONS: located in a sectioned off part of the Dome

Saturday 25th July

10.30: Verina Warren Illustrated Talk- 45 mins
Textile artist Verina Warren will discuss how she draws on aspects of nature, finding pattern, colour and light within landscape - enhanced by paint, dye and stitch. TEXTILE ARTIST

11.00 Lucy Palmer Demonstration - 30 mins
Lucy will be demonstrating the decorative technique, 'Keum Boo', in which 24ct gold foil is fused to silver to create interesting surface patterns.

11.30 Dave Butcher Illustrated Talk - 45 mins
Stunning landscape and city shots in glorious black and white. A print presentation covering the Peak District and further afield.

12.30 Alison Counsell Talk - 45 mins
Mapping the landscape and other projects from an outstanding metalsmith.

1.00 Karin Sheldon Demo - 45 mins
'Wiggly Felt Shapes' - Does your imagination overtake your skill? How to form unusual shapes in hand-made felts. Lots of lovely colour too.

2.00 Kim-Lisa Clack Demo - 45 mins
Kim will be demonstrating the different techniques she uses when creating her innovative jewellery.

2.30 Eddie Hallam Talk - 30 mins
The making of a bronze sculptures, from conception to completion

3.15 Craig Banks Talk - 30 mins
Learn how we design and build Ecopods. A lecture which encompasses the design, environmental principals, materials, planning issues and cost.



Sunday 26th July

10.30: Cocoadance Illustrated Talk- 45 mins
An established Chocolatier, Dave Golubows discusses how to start a chocolate business.

11.00 Christine Waygood Demonstration - 30 mins
An outstanding textile designer, Chris Waygood will demonstrate working with felted knits

11.30 Elizabeth Forrest Illustrated Talk - 45 mins
Hand-made paper and lettering: a marriage made in heaven.
A PowerPoint slide show and talk describing my calligraphic "journey", covering techniques and inspiration!

12.30 Colin Halliday Talk - 45 mins
24 years after starting a career in art, Colin looks back at his journey and shares with you some of the highlights, examples of work throughout this journey will be illustrated.

1.00 Andy Oldfield Demo - 45 mins
Andy will be demonstrating a combination of traditional skills with a contemporary twist using a range of stone carving techniques.

1.30 Richard Prime Talk - 30 mins
Inspired by nature. Richard will be talking about the inspiration behind his wildlife paintings.

2.30 Sue Gorman Talk - 30 mins
‘The bad pot never breaks’. Sue’s slide show will incorporate student days, throwing pots and living life as a potter!

3.15 Nicholas Hobbs Talk - 30 mins
A Spirit of Optimism - on designing and making furniture for the next 100 years or more.
